So God made the two larger lights, the sun to rule over the day and the moon to rule over the night... Gen 1:16 (Good news version)
During the day the lord went in front of them in a pillar of cloud to show them the way, and then during the night He went in front of them in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel night and day. Exodus13:21 (Good news version).
When God created the heavens and the earth, the bible recorded that the earth was without shape and was desolate and God, seeing that the state of the earth at that period does not synchronized with the original plan drafted before the commencement of the creation, called forth the light to shine on the earth. Yet, He discovered the original plan had not surfaced, because light and darkness cannot govern/rule at the same time, so God demarcated by forming the two larger lights: one to govern the day and the other to rule at night. The gap between them was so wide that the two cannot meet or come across each other except in the eclipse of the moon which was the day Joshua commanded the sun and the moon to stand still (Joshua 10:12).
Now when the Israelites left Egypt, it was recorded that in the wilderness, the LORD went before them during the day with the pillars of cloud to show them the way. WHY? Since God created two greater lights and one of them rules the day which is the sun, knowing well that one could walk freely in the day, even the blind could. Why should God follow them with the pillars of cloud in the day? We all agreed that they need this light during the night, but why these pillars of cloud during the day? There is no how one can be walking in the day and still be using a torch light. Then why? That was the question I kept asking myself, until one day, as I walked through the university of Ibadan campus, one afternoon. A car drove pass me with a high speed and I wondered why he should be on such a high speed while on campus. I was still pondering, when suddenly, I stepped on something and suddenly, the thing moved and struggled under my feet and wiped me with its tail. I quickly took off my leg, only to discover I had stepped on a big snake. My whole body trembled; I could not move nor speak because I was alone, as no passers- by then. Then I heard a voice saying, “can you now see why I guided the Israelites with the pillar of cloud in the day? I allowed that car pass you to step on its head.” And sincerely that was the only car that passed and it only matched the head of the snake. And also, it never crossed my mind that a snake could be on my way. So I was led to the book of psalm 91:5-6
V5- …for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day
V6- …nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday (KJV)
God himself knows that there are some arrows that fly and destructions that waste at noon day which your physical eyes cannot and might not see. That is why some people cannot walk or travel at night with the notion that, it is only the night that is dangerous, not knowing that it’s God alone that protects and keeps them even during the day.
This is the last quarter of the year. We started from January till this moment, do you think it is your righteousness that had taken you thus far? If these two pillars had been removed from you, what would have become of you? So when I ask you to count your blessings, am not saying you should count the numbers of your cars, houses, nor the millions in your bank accounts, they might also be important. But rather, the blessings you think are normal or your right, which are the blessings of sleeping and waking up. The protection during the day and the night. These same pillars have been removed from some people and they were no more. So if these pillars should be removed from you today, what will happen! But thank God, these pillars are around you. Can you see that it worth praising God for?
COUNT your BLESSINGS and you will be amazed what the Lord has done.
God bless you.
