What is wrong with taking and giving bribe?

A bribe crudely put is a reward given to another to facilitate or to get a desired outcome. What is wrong with this act and why is there such a moral panic about giving and taking bribe? When my friends and I visited America recently, we had to tip for everything. You want something a waiter pretend not to hear, you flash a few dollars the man hear almost immediately. What is the difference between a tip and a bribe? What is wrong with one getting rewarded for ones hard work? please let us discuss?

Why another pay after legitimate salary? Bribe is wrong when you are held to ransom by a service provider until you part with money. After (not before) rendering service , it is at the discretion of the recipient to express his appreciation. This is gratification and ok.

It is wrong in all ramification. Both morally and religion it is wrong. If you are a christian as an average Nigerian claims to be which we are not, Christ did not demand anything from mankind before he paid the price of death. There is a big gap between bribe and payment for hardwork. The first is unjust while the second is just. Both the receiver and the giver of a bribe God will judge. Bribe can deprive other people of their right and justice. Its a kangaroo way of doing things. Infact it is uncivilised, barbaric, and dirty.

I want to relate a similar situation. Example, I work for this property development company. Someone wanted to offer me money for the past support I have given to him. The only reason he is giving me Money so that I will continue to support his company by awarding the electrical contract to his company. My friend said I am stupid for not accepting his money. Is this legal or bribe? Work ethics, I know this is wrong. Instead I tell him that I will not accept his money. I tell him to recommend all his friends and to handover all his existing clients to me who would want to upgrade to bigger homes and I will pass back the electrical business of his clients to his company. This is a win win situation for both parties. This I would say a genuine wealth creation.
