Was President Obama Politically Correct Not Including Nigeria To His Africa Visit ?

It is said that one out of every five black man is probably a Nigeian, so why would President Obama not visit the most populated Black African country? Kenya, his paternal home Country was not visited too. There is an adage that says the masquerade perfects his dance steps first at home before exhibiting them outside. What do you think?

Samuel, I guess the other question we should ask is: Why didn't he visit Kenya? It is only natural that one should expect him to visit his ancestral country first. But that would not be politically correct.

I guess he chose Ghana for obvious reason: The most recent election in Ghana is perhaps one of the most fair elections ( in that continent) in recent times. The election was very transparent , such that the opposing party became victorious over an incumbent government. This is not the case with the recent election in Nigeria. Obama's speech focused on re-iterating the need to foster unity, accountability and fiscal responsibility. Nigerians need to understand that fiscal responsibility is a moral duty as it is an economic concern.

I guess Nigeria is a more corrupt country than Ghana. And the diplomatic relationship between U.S and Ghana is stronger than that between U.S and Nigeria. Nigeria's democratic system needs a lot of rehabilitation.

I am sure before the end of his term, Obama will visit Nigeria.

Mr. Chris Osiyi,I absolutely agree with you in no small measure. Obama's choice of Ghana is wholly predicated on Ghana's democratic precedence and it will be a challenge not only to the self-acclaimed 'Giant of AFRICA' but also to other African Countries.

In politics, you dont have permanent friends or enemies but permanent interests.
If Nigeria fails to conduct credible elections in 10 local councils, it would have been a great disservice to democracy (America is the leading bastion of democracy in the world) for Obama to visit Nigeria, hence he was politically correct to skip Nigeria for now.

I think that is best way to deal with nigeria govt, we call that political snubbing. Let African Leaders know in no uncertain term that they would not be getting any political friendship from Obama just because he hapen to be Black and the US President.

Let African leaders(Nigeria) know that they have to get their houses in order. The days that leaders like Obasanjo rub shoulders with us president is over, Take care of your home and people will respect you.

The issue is not visiting Nigeria or Kenya, the issue is "if Nigeria or Kenya has what it's take for him(obama)to visit "
.Until our Leaders acknowledge the beauty of Leaderstyle, where Good goverance is vital, youths recongise, humanright active, conflicts solved, accountablity rendered and the Rule of Law is uphold, obama will not visit "BIG BROTHER" NIGERIA.However, the most important thing is that, the President Obama passed his information to all other African Countries.where ever he stays shouldn't make any difference.

Thanks for your comment. How would you reconcile the fact that Obama visited Russia and snubbed Nigeria? We all seem to forget the recent Russian occupation of Georgia. What are the democratic values of a country who undermines the soveriegnty of another country and why did the west not stand up to the Russian armed invasion of Georgia?

Thanks for your comment. I find it difficult to reconcile the facts that Obama would visit Russia and snub Nigeria because of the later's political/democracy antecedents. We all seem to forget the recent military invasion/occupation of Georgia by Russia. How would you reconcile these facts.

Thanks for your comment. I have a question that i want you to answer. If Obama snubbed Nigeria because she did not meet up the democratic standards of Obama( I agree that we have our problems and i took note of the lessons Nigeria has to learn from the last Ghana presidential election),but why did Obama visit Russia if his democratic standards are not biased. We all seem to forget in a hurry the recent Russian military occupation of Georgia. What are the democratic values of a country that launched a full scale war on another for selfish political reasons?
